Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is carrying out an investigation against a Kanpur-based five-star hotel for supplying stale food to passengers on board the Vande Bharat Express, reports Zee Business.
The complaint which kicked off the proceedings was filed by an Indian Army colonel. Another passenger who was served stale food was Fatehpur MP and Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti.
"We have received the complaint from the passenger and we will take action. Prima facie it looks like the five star hotel in Kanpur supplied rice which was not fresh to the passengers. The Group General Manager, North, IRCTC is now at the hotel inspecting their food preparing and packaging chain," said IRCTC officials.
The hotel’s supply chain has now come under scrutiny to determine how exactly stale food reached passengers’ plates. It is believed that the food may have gotten stale due to being transported in a non-AC vehicle, as temperatures in the region have gotten quite high in recent weeks.
