Indian Railways Considering To Open Up 15 Sports Facilities Owned By It For Commercial And Wider Use

In a boost for accessibility to quality sports infrastructure in different parts of the country, the Indian Railways is looking to allow commercial use of 15 sports stadiums and complexes owned by it, reports Indian Express.

The Ministry of Railways has asked the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) to evaluate the techno-economic feasibility for the commercial development of these facilities.

The list of assets being considered by the Indian Railways for monetisation include sports complexes at the production units in Raebareli based Modern Coach Factory, Kapurthala based Rail Coach Factory, Bengaluru based Rail Wheel Factory, Varanasi based Banaras Locomotive Works (formerly DLW) and Chennai based Integral Coach Factory.

It should be noted that each of the aforementioned production units has its own townships under which the sporting complexes lie.

In addition to these, the other facilities being considered for commercial use to include the indoor stadium and cricket ground in Mumbai’s Parel, a hockey stadium in Ranchi, a sports complex in Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi, and several other sports facilities in Gorakhpur, Patna, Lucknow, Secunderabad and Bhubaneswar.
