In a big boost for Delhi's demand for higher liquid medical oxygen (LMO) supply, Indian Railways has flagged off an Oxygen Express train carrying about 225 metric tonnes (MT) of LMO from Gujarat's Hapa for the national capital, reports Hindustan Times.

The development gains much significance as 225 MT is the highest volume of LMO which has been transported on a single train so far since the Indian Railways had first begun the Oxygen Express train service a few weeks ago.

The train was departed from Hapa on Sunday (9 May) night with 11 tankers onboard. These will be received at the Delhi Cantt station in the national capital today, following which the tankers will be dispatched to supply to the hospitals.

As per a statement issued by the Indian Railways, it has till date run as many as 68 Oxygen Expresses which have offloaded 294 MT of LMO in Maharashtra, 1,230 MT of LMO in Uttar Pradesh, 271 MT of LMO in Madhya Pradesh, 555 MT in Haryana, 123 MT in Telangana, 40 MT in Rajasthan and 1,679 MT in Delhi.

In total, the Indian Railways has so far delivered nearly 4,200 MT of LMO by transporting 268 tankers across the country.
