Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal.
The Indian Railways is all set begin works to transform Puducherry's railway station into a world-class destination by embarking on a Rs 44 crore station redevelopment project for which tenders are expected to be awarded by as soon as August, reports Financial Express.
The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is all set to hold pre-bid meeting for the project on 10 June and 17 June via video conferencing medium to witness the participation for the project from interested bidders.
The bidder who will finally be selected will thereafter be entrusted with the responsibility to carry out commercial development around the station, while also carrying out the up-gradation and redevelopment of the station.
The concessionaire will have to maintain and operate the station buildings as well as the associated estate for a span of 60 years.
It should be noted that because of its locational proximity to major cities like Chennai, Bengaluru and Coimbatore, the city has evolved into a major weekend getaway destination for many. The footfall is expected to further surge to over 25 lakh people a year by 2022.
