The Indian Railways installed e-toilets developed by Eram Scientific in some of its coaches to celebrate World Toilet Day on Monday (19 November), reports Business Today. These toilets have been introduced by the Central Railway’s Mumbai Division.
The toilets function electronically, which makes flushing and keeping up hygiene handy. The first of its kind concept is being observed vigilantly, and if successful, these toilets can be installed in other coaches as well. The pressurised flushing and the sensors make cleaning easy. The sensors will ensure that the floor is automatically cleaned after the fifth use.
These Eco- friendly toilets are reportedly easy to install due to their pre-fabricated steel structure.
Apart from this development, the Indian Railways plans to refurbish 2,000 old coaches by the end of this year. The backbone of Indian Transportation is all set to improve customer experience by adding charging points for every seat, tray-tables, new fans, better seat covers, new taps, and pictures in the passages. The upgradation expense is said to be about Rs 600 crore.
