Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal
The Indian Railways has completed the enhancement of maximum speed to 130 kilometres per hour (kmph) on 1,280 kilometres of the total 1,612 kilometres (kms) track network which comprises the Golden Quadrilateral-Golden Diagonal (GQ-GD) route except for Vijayawada - Duvvada section, reports Livemint.
The Vijayawada - Duvvada section of the GQ-GD route is presently undergoing signalling up-gradation works.
As per the Piyush Goyal led Ministry of Railways, the Indian Railways has achieved the massive feat by implementing the systematic and planned strengthening of track and infrastructure by removing bottlenecks in these crucial sections of the national rail network.
Indian Railways has laid down heavier rails, improved the curves and gradients, and also laid 260-metres-long welded rail panels which have helped in the overhaul of the GQ-GD section. The efforts were bolstered with the national lockdown and low train movement offering an opportunity to complete all the necessary infrastructure up-gradation works.
As a result, the South Central Railway zone has already received the go-ahead to enhance the maximum speed limits to 130 kmph on 744 kms long Golden Diagonal (Grand Trunk) route and 536 kms long Chennai-Mumbai section of the Golden Quadrilateral route. Meanwhile, the maximum speed limits on the 132 kms long high-density network (HDN) between Secunderabad and Kazipet had already been enhanced to 130 kmph.
