Indian Railways To Fence Off, Upgrade Delhi-Mumbai Track To Allow Rajdhani Express To Travel At 160 Km/Hr

The Indian Railways is looking at a slew of improvements that will allow the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express to run at a semi-high speed of 160 km/hr, a report in the Financial Express says. The current top speed on the train on the 1,300 km-long route is 130 km/hr, but only on select stretches.
According to railway officials, the government plans to fence off around 500 km of tracks on the routes, mostly along the urban areas on the stretch to increase the average speed to 130 km/hr. The track passes through the urban areas of Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara and New Delhi. Eventually, the entire stretch will be upgraded to enable speeds of up to 160 km/hr.
The Railway board has given its green signal for fencing the tracks and the Railways’ is conducting a survey.
The Railways has also asked zones to examine the feasibility of increasing the speeds of trains on the following routes: Mumbai-New Delhi, Mumbai-Chennai, Mumbai-Kolkata, Chennai-New Delhi, Chennai-Kolkata, and New Delhi-Kolkata.
