Covid-19 vaccination drive
India has administered over 130 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses to the eligible population in the country.
"With the administration of 80,86,910 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 130.39 crore (1,30,39,32,286) crore as per provisional reports till 7 am today," the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday (9 December).
The 130-crore Covid-19 vaccination coverage has been achieved through 1,35,89,181 sessions throughout the country, according to the ministry.
India began the Covid-19 vaccination drive on 16 January this year with inoculation of healthcare and frontline workers in the first phase of the mega exercise. In the subsequent phases, the vaccination drive was opened for all the country's eligible population above 18 years of age.
So far, the government has provided over 140 crore Covid vaccine doses to states and UTs through various channels.
"More than 140 crore (1,40,01,00,230) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category," the Health Ministry said in a statement.
