India’s Education Capital? Three Bengaluru Institutes - IIM, IISc, NLS - Bag Top Honours In 2019 NIRF Rankings

In the 2019 NIRF Rankings released by the HRD ministry on Monday (8 April), Indian Insitute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) was ranked as the best higher education institution in the country in the “overall” category, followed by Indian Institute of Science-Bengaluru and IIT-Delhi respectively.
Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) replaced IIM Ahmadabad as the best institute in the ‘management category. In total, seven IITs appear in the top 10 list of the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) for 2019 in the ‘overall’ category. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University (DU) and Banares Hindu University (BHU) occupy the remaining places.
National Law School of India University (NLSU), Bengaluru was adjudged as the best law school in the country.
The 2019 list was the fourth edition of the nationwide rankings. It was prepared by the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry and released by President Ram Nath Govind.
Announcing the results, the President said “Recent expansion in higher education has widened access and improved equity. Even so, quality remains a concern.”

The rankings, published annually since 2016, are based on multiple parameters, including teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and inclusivity; and the perception of the public, academics and employers. In all, 3,127 institutions applied for different categories of the NIRF this year.
