India’s Frontline Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya To Undergo Maintenance, Upgrade In 2020

Scheduled maintenance of Indian aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya will be carried out to upgrade some of its systems in 2020 which will be carried out by Russian shipbuilding firm, Sevmash, report Defence News.

Alexander Mikheev, head of Russian arms exporting agency, Rosoboronexport said “Since ship delivery in 2013, its crew has been provided with qualified technical support in the maintenance and repair of shipboard equipment, regular supply of the necessary spare parts has been organized, and retrofitting of the corresponding onshore infrastructure has been underway.”

Indian Navy took charge of INS Vikramaditya on November 16, 2013 on condition of a one-year warranty servicing. Sevmash was also obliged to perform the Vikramaditya’s life-cycle support.

INS Vikramaditya with 45,000 ton displacement is currently India’s only aircraft carrier with INS Viraat having being decommissioned in 2015. INS Vikramaditya possesses state of the art navigation, radar, communication and aircraft control systems and has the capacity to carry 30 fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, including MiG-29K combat aircraft.
