India’s Wholesale Price Inflation Eased To 3.58 Per Cent In December

From an eight-month high in November, India’s Wholesale Price Index (WPI) eased to 3.58 per cent in December, Reuters has reported.
While WPI had risen 3.93 per cent in November 2017, it stood at 2.10 per cent in December 2016.
According to the data released by the government today, WPI decreased due to slower rises in food prices in the country. Data shows that inflation in food articles slowed to 4.72 per cent in December from 6.06 per cent in November.
In December, wholesale food prices rose 2.91 percent year-on-year, compared with a 4.10 percent rise a month earlier.
This development comes after data released last week showed that retail inflation had breached the Reserve Bank of India’s comfort level to touch 5.21 per cent in December last year.
