IndiGo airline reported that one of its flights from Srinagar to Jammu entered Pakistani airspace on Sunday (25 June).
The airline stated that the flight was compelled to enter Pakistani airspace due to adverse weather conditions.
An official from IndiGo confirmed the incident, stating, "IndiGo 6e-2124 entered in Pakistan airspace for a while due to bad weather and the flight was diverted to Amritsar," as reported by ANI.
An airline official said they informed the authorities in both countries before the IndiGo flight entered Pakistan airspace.
The Jammu and Lahore ATCs (air traffic controls) coordinated the flight diversion effectively.
Sources revealed that the flight was supposed to land at Jammu airport, but due to adverse weather conditions, it was redirected to Amritsar.
The official confirmed that the flight briefly entered Pakistani airspace but landed safely in Amritsar.
Earlier this month, an IndiGo Amritsar-Ahmedabad flight encountered a similar incident when it entered Pakistani airspace due to bad weather.
In that case, the Amritsar ATC coordinated the deviation with Pakistan via telephone, and the crew maintained continuous contact with Pakistan on R/T.
The flight landed safely in Ahmedabad after the deviation.
