Sikhs in Indore carried out a purification ritual on a statue of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh with milk and holy water after Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra paid a floral tribute on it on Monday (13 May 2019), reports News18.

After carrying out the purification process, the group proceeded to protest against Congress veteran Sam Pitroda’s ‘hua to hua’ remarks on the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.

The protesters claimed that the floral tribute by Vadra was a disrespect to the statue. “We purified the statue with milk and holy water form Amritsar this morning,” said one of the demonstrating Sikhs, Pritam Singh Luthra.

Responding to the matter, Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi remarked that he was critical of Pitroda’s comments and that it did not reflect the official view of the party.

Pitroda had been forced to issue an apology for his remarks, widely seen as condoning the massacare of Sikhs in 1984, after they caused a huge public outcry. The Congress leader had also claimed that his words were misinterpreted and that he had intended to say “Hua to bura Hua (It was wrong that it happened)“ but said the wrong thing due to his poor Hindi.
