Innovation-Boost For India: Uber To Ramp Up Research And Development Centres In Bangalore, Hyderabad

Uber is planning to ramp up local research and development wings in their Bengaluru and Hyderabad offices in a bid to fuel growth in India, The Hindu has reported.
“We have started to push for localisation of our products and initiatives…the tech centres we have in Bangalore and Hyderabad are scaling up rapidly. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on those teams to hire, but more importantly they are building products for markets like India from those centres,” Uber’s head for India and South Asia markets Pradeep Parameswaran told The Hindu.
Further, the official said that the company’s presence will be the biggest after US, though he did not reveal any numbers. Parameswaran pointed out that the Uber Lite app was the first innovation for India as it is designed to work in areas with low connectivity. The application was recently launched in Latin America as well.
The company has also planned the two-way anonymisation feature on its app wherein the driver and the user would be able to communicate without knowing the number of the other person. The company is also planning to expand beyond the existing 31 cities in the country.
