Amidst the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Dharmasabha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced that they will be constructing a 221-metre-tall statue of Lord Ram, on the banks of the Saryu in the holy town of Ayodhya.
The government, however, didn’t reveal the cost, funding and the location of the statue, but announced that Lord Ram’s statue should stand taller than the statue of Unity. The Lord Ram statue shall stand tall at 221 metres, in which the statue shall be of 151 metres, the umbrella of 20 metres and the pedestal of 50 metres. The pedestal would consist of a “grand and ultra-modern museum” showcasing the history of Ayodhya, legendary Ikshvaku dynasty and Raja Manu, and the Ram Janmabhooomi, reports The Hindu.
This is not the only Ram statue which the BJP is planning. They have announced that they will be building a statue at Shringverpur, a site near Allahabad as well. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, after shortlisting five statues, selected one of bronze.
Yogi Adityanath wants to make Ayodhya a tourist hub and is maintaining his promise of last year to build a ‘Naya Ayodhya’ in which he would build a Ram statue.
