Former home minister and four time finance minister P Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI on Wednesday evening (21 August) in connection with the INX Media scam. He has been taken to the CBI headquarters for questioning.
This arrest resulted in a backlash from Congress supporters present outside of his house, who began chanting anti-Amit Shah slogans. Various party workers too have been detained for their actions. Chidambaram was taken away in a SUV while sitting in the back seat along with investigating officials.
Chidambaram’s luck ran out when the Delhi High Court rejected his interim protection from arrest by the Delhi High Court. He then decided to go incognito and only surfaced a few hours ago at the Congress headquarters.
After addressing a press conference, Chidambaram went to his Jor Bagh residence and was followed by a team of CBI and ED officials. The officials had to resort to climbing boundary walls to enter his residence to briefly question him before making the arrest.
