The Indian Railways is planning to introduce a new passenger-friendly scheme which will make it possible for passengers to change and manage their boarding station four hours before scheduled departure, reports Financial Express. This reportedly means that passengers can change their boarding stations till the time of chart preparation.
According to a Jagran report, the facility will be put into effect across the entire Indian Railways network from 1 May. At present, the facility to change boarding stations was accorded only till 24 hours before departure.
The Railway Board, under the new plan, has made significant changes in the ticketing system for passengers’ convenience. The plan reportedly allows passengers to change boarding station up to two times. Passengers will not have to pay extra for availing the facility, but if the change has been made within 24 hours, then refund will not be available.
The Railway Board has reportedly directed all zonal railway offices to mandatorily ensure implementation of the scheme.
As per the report, passengers can change their boarding station through the official website of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), railway ticket counters as well as on the Railway inquiry number ‘139’. For this, the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) has started the process of updating the ticketing system.
