The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will ask all the passengers booking tickets via its portal to give their destination addresses which will help in Covid-19 contact tracing if required, Livemint has reported.
The IRCTC website was thrown open for booking special trains which commenced operations from 12 May. All the 15 sets of trains have New Delhi as one of the end stations and cover most major cities.
The practice of recording the destination address of the passengers was started from 13 May. This will remain a mandatory requirement for the near future.
This will help authorities track contacts of any potential Covid-19 patient and carry out the required test and quarantine measures.
The Indian Railways has announced the cancellation of all regular train tickets till 30 June. The services of the special trains and Shramik special trains will continue as normal.
The special trains will also carry the waitlisted ticket facility from 22 May and they will be capped at 200 for sleeper class, 100 for AC 3 tier, 50 for AC 2 tier, 20 for AC First class, 100 for chair cars, 20 for executive class. The facility of reservation against cancellation (RAC) will not be available in the trains.
