The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assuage concerns of passengers related to hygiene in its kitchens, The Hindu Business Line has reported.
Reports of food poisoning, worms and stale food being served on trains have left the passengers concerned about quality. The Comptroller and Auditor General had also flagged the poor hygiene level in the kitchens used by the IRCTC.
Now, 16 of the 200 base kitchens of the IRCTC will be monitored using CCTV cameras and algorithms. The process employed by vendors to prepare food will be tracked to see if they are following all the safety instructions given by the IRCTC.
“Earlier, these firms were cooking in their own kitchen. Now, they cook in these production centres, developed by the Railways. This allows us a way to track the processes of the vendor,” said an was quoted by the daily as saying.
AI module, developed in collaboration with New Delhi based company called WOBOT, will use CCTV footage to detect any change in the process.
