According to Financial Times’ Global MBA Ranking 2021 released on Monday (08 February), five Indian business schools including four Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have found a place in the top 100 business schools, reports LiveMint.
While the Indian School of Business (ISB) has been ranked 23 in the world, IIM Bangalore stood at 35. IIM Calcutta and IIM Ahmedabad scored 44 and 48 ranks respectively. On the other hand, IIM Indore has entered the top 100 list for the first time with 94th rank.
Hyderabad based ISB was ranked number one in India and third in Asia.
The ranking of business schools by the Financial Times (FT) is considered an authoritative yardstick of the quality of management studies. Alumni salaries three years after they graduated, the number of research papers published in quality journals, overall satisfaction of students, and the diversity of students and faculty are part of the data used for the ranking.
This year, ISB and IIM-A improved four and thirteen places respectively. But IIM Calcutta dropped two spots and IIM Bangalore dropped eight spots.
On the global level, while INSEAD based in France and Singapore topped the ranking, London Business School and Chicago’s Booth School of Business followed it.
It must be noted here that a number of business schools in the US including Harvard, Stanford and Wharton did not participate in the rankings as the data gathering was disrupted in 2020 by the pandemic.
