Islamists Prevail In Aurangabad: Taslima Nasreen Sent Back From Airport

Maharashtra police said today that Taslima Nasreen was sent back to Mumbai from the Aurangabad airport, after she landed there last night (29 July), as per this report.
This step was taken after there were demonstrations outside Aurangabad airport, led by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA, Imtiyaz Jaleel. The protestors were shouting, “Taslima go back”, amongst other slogans. Apart from the airport, there were protestors gathered at the hostel where Nasreen was to stay during her visit.
According to the police, Nasreen was asked to return to Mumbai to avoid any “law and order problem” in the city.
She had a planned a three-day visit to a city (during which she would also have gone to the Ajanta and Ellora heritage sites).
The report also quotes Imtiyaz Jaleel, an NDTV-staffer turned politician, as saying that he would not allow Nasreen to step on the soil of Aurangabad, and that she had hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims across the world.
