Rahim Uchil, Vice President of BJP’s Minorities Morcha in Karnataka.
Rahim Uchil, Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Minorities Morcha in Karnataka, has been threatened by Islamist forces in the state after rumours of him converting to Hinduism for power and money were spread through posts on the social media.
Uchil, the Muslim face of the BJP in the state, has accused a Facebook page called ‘Mangalore Muslims’ of spreading rumours that he has converted to Hinduism in the presence of Pejawar Math chief Vishweshateertha Swamiji. He has rejected the claims, saying that the priest had presented him a shawl and prasadam when he had met him. A photograph of the event was posted on Uchil’s Facebook page.
“Some miscreants edited the pictures and spread the rumours that he had abandoned his religion for power and money,” he said, adding that he bowed his head before the priest because he is elder to him.
The Facebook page which spread this rumour had also run a campaign against Suhana Sayed, a Muslim girl from Shivamogga who sang a Hindu devotional song on a television reality show.
