The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced an ambitious plan for India to get its own space station, a proposal for the same would be submitted by the space agency following the Gaganyaan Mission, Press Trust of India has reported.

“We have to sustain the Gaganyaan programme after the launch of the human space mission. In this context, India is planning to have its own space station”, ISRO Chairman K Sivan was quoted as saying.

ISRO will be launching its moon lander mission named "Chandrayaan-2" next month and has an active project aimed at sending humans into space in the next few years.

This announcement comes after ISRO had updated that preparations for the Gaganyaan mission is on in full swing and 10 potential astronauts would be shortlisted by the Indian Air Force in the next two months.

The crew would be trained at ISRO’s Human Space Flight Centre in Bengaluru and finally three astronauts would be shortlisted for the mission.

ISRO is also all set to launch its Chandrayaan-II mission on 15 July and is in the process of giving the final touches to its orbiter and lander.
