In a positive development, Indian Space Research organisation (ISRO) chairman Dr K Sivan has revealed that the nation's apex space study body is developing a "green propulsion" system for its ambitious human space flight mission 'Gaganyaan', reports Livemint.

Dr Sivan also shared that all the future propulsion stages may adopt the green propulsion being developed for Gaganyaan mission. While the Gaganyaan mission was earlier slated for December 2021 launch, the same has now been delayed due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that addressing the 16th convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Dr Sivan also shared that ISRO has also developed space-grade lithium-ion batteries which is useful for mass adoption of electric vehicles.

Dr Sivan also shared that ISRO's next PSLV launch mission will be carrying satellite from start-up agencies which will mark the first product launch since the space sector was opened up to the private sector earlier this year under Government's Atmanirbhar Bharat push.

Addressing the students, Dr Sivan also emphasised, "ISRO is very much open to you all. I request SRM to come forward with their innovative idea of making space activities as required by the Government of India. I am sure that SRM will do this work."
