ISRO Set To Unveil Low-Cost Satellite Launch Vehicle To Put Satellites Weighing Up To 500 Kg Into Orbit

In a major development, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday (31 January) announced that it is preparing low-cost satellite launch vehicles costing around Rs 30-35 crore each, reports Asian News International (ANI).

The premier space technology driver of the nation, ISRO also announced that the launch of first such vehicle is set to take place in the next four months, and that these low cost launch vehicles will have the capacity to lift satellites weighing as much as 500 kilograms.

The achievement once manifested would come as a major shot in the arm for ISRO, helping it get commercially competitive and cater to the micro, mini and medium segments of the market.

It was also made public that the ISRO has built up the capacity to manufacture such launch vehicles in a turnaround time of merely three weeks. The developments were shared by Deputy Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Haridas TV at a two-day space conclave named EDGE 2020.
