In a bid to enable a smoother and faster experience for taxpayers, the Income Tax Department has now rolled out a lite e-filing option on the main e-filing website: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/, as per a PTI report.
“The Income Tax department is launching ‘e-Filing Lite’, a lighter version of e-Filing portal with a focus on filing of Income Tax Return (ITR) by the taxpayers,” said an advisory released by the department.
The ‘e-Filing Lite’ option is present right at the home page of the e-filing website. Once the user clicks on the button and log in, they are taken to a page which only has essential information and links.
The lite e-filing option will allow the user to file their income tax returns online and fill in the TDS credit form (Form 26AS), but some other features like e-proceeding, e-compliance, etc will only be available on the standard version.
The last date for filing returns for the 2018-19 assessment year is now 31 August.
