Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey
The Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT Ajay Sawhney has written a stern letter to CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey conveying the strong disapproval of the Government of India over the social-media platform showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of China.
It was earlier reported that Twitter was displaying a message "Jammu and Kashmir, People's Republic of China", after one started a live broadcast by entering his or her location as Leh. This was first highlighted by senior defence journalist Nitin Gokhale and soon became a big controversy.
In the letter Sawhney reminds Dorsey and Twitter that Leh is the headquarter of Union Territory of Ladakh and both Ladakh as well as Jammu and Kashmir are integral and inalienable parts of India governed by the Constitution of India.
Sawhney while giving a stern warning to Twitter asserted that it needs to respect the sensitivities of Indian citizens. He says that any attempt by Twitter to disrespect sovereignty and integrity of India, which is also reflected by the maps, is totally unacceptable. The same is also unlawful.
Sawhney also mentioned that such attempts not only brings disrepute to Twitter but also raises questions about its neutrality and fairness as an intermediary.
