A new unit of assault dogs could accompany Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel on patrol duties along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). These assault dogs have been raised by the ITBP and their first batch is ready.

After having the company of ponies and horses on duty, the ITBP will now have assault dogs as companions on vigil in these regions.

The dogs have been trained to work in a team of four for the assault and aid the force.

This report quotes an ITBP officer as saying that the force may also explore the Bhotia Dog.

An ITBP officer has been quoted as saying: "ITBP, which is the first paramilitary force to induct dogs, will also be the first force in the world to have this arrowhead quartet assault dogs."

An ITBP officer is quoted as saying: "If the go-ahead is given, it will be the first of its kind deployment of dogs at the LAC."

A Times of India report says: "The new team of canine soldiers includes the ferocious Malinois and the German Shepherd breeds and the force proposes to train a total of 30 dogs in the first go."

The first batch, which is ready for induction after getting at ITBP academy in Panchkula, Haryana, will be airlifted soon.
