Even though the first phase of the Jaipur Metro is proposed by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) as non-viable, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is likely to go ahead with the second phase of Metro project, reports The Metro Rail News.
Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation plans to go ahead with the second phase with the current capacities it has. Despite having chances of being held back in funding, the state urban development department is confident in moving forward, suggest reports.
The population estimates employed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation while preparing the initial Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the metro were found to be inflated. The office of the CAG has also raised the same concern on the selection of the first phase of implementation.
The report had also suggested that JMRC look for alternatives such as light rail transport for its second phase. The first phase is reported to have not achieved break-even. However, JMRC officials are hell-bent on the necessity of a medium-scale metro for Jaipur.
A survey with rectified population figures still suggests the requirement of an additional medium-metro corridor from Sitapura to VKI, says a JMRC official.
The absence of a unified metropolitan transport authority comes in the way of the state from getting financial assistance from the Central government. The State government had been trying to rope in the Union government to obtain a stake of 20 per cent in Jaipur Metro.
