Jammu and Kashmir Police today (12 July) shot dead a terrorist named Sajad who was behind the lynching of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammed Ayub Pandith on 23 June.
Pandith was lynched on the suspicion of being non-Muslim by a group of men outside the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. The mob dragged Pandith out of the mosque and then proceeded to beat him to death. They subsequently raised pro-Pakistan and pro-militant slogans.
The lynching took place while the leader of Pakistan-sponsored Hurriyat Conference and Kashmir Valley head priest Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was inside the mosque, delivering his sermon on the occasion of Shab-e-Qadr.
