Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Hints At Postponement Of 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Shinzo Abe today (23 March) hinted at the possible postponement of the mega sporting fiesta Olympics which is scheduled to be held in Tokyo this year, reports Asian News International (ANI).

PM Abe said that the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and the International Olympics Committee (IOC) would give top priority to the health of the athletes and said that the IOC and its officials would hold discussions in this regard.

PM Abe also asserted that the IOC was confident of finalising the discussions within four weeks. The discussions would take up the assessment of the rapidly developing worldwide health situation in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The discussions would also take up the impact of the global health situation on the conduction of the Olympic Games, including the scenario of the postponement of the games.
