The Jharkhand Congress has issued a show-cause notice to seasoned Muslim leader Furqan Ansari for his criticism of Rahul Gandhi and the party’s state in-charge RPN Singh, Hindustan Times reports.

After the party’s underwhelming performances in the Bihar assembly polls and by-elections across the country, Ansari had called for Gandhi to have a sound political advisor. The 72-year-old mentioned that the Wayanad MP’s office is comprised of MBA graduates who do not prepare proper campaign speeches for him.

“As a result, they are not able to give him the right advice or suggest key talking points for his campaign speeches. To strengthen the Congress, it is important for Rahul Gandhi to have a political advisor,” Ansari mentioned. He minced no words about RPN Singh either, who has previously been Union Minister of state for Home Affairs in UPA-II. “If I were at the helm, I would have not appointed him (RPN Singh) even a block president,” Ansari remarked.

Leaders from the Congress’ state unit had called for a stern action to be taken against the former MP. Acting on the same, party’s Jharkhand working president Kamlesh Mahto issued the notice to Ansari, who will have to explain his statements within seven days now.

Congress’ poor electoral performances have prompted senior leaders like Kapil Sibal and P. Chidambaram in openly criticizing the party’s top-brass and organizational structure respectively. Moreover, Bihar Congress president Madan Mohan Jha, All India Congress Committee’s Bihar in-charge Shaktisinh Gohil and Gujarat in-charge Rajeev Satav have offered to resign from their posts too.
