Jharkhand's Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren has refused the request put forward by the union government to send workers to the border areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to boost the construction of road infrastructure in the strategically important areas, reports Times of India.
State government has cancelled the permission it had earlier granted to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to hold a recruitment drive in Dumka district for the hiring of road construction workers. The union government had already sent a team to Jharkhand to conduct the drive.
State government has cited the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for the cancellation of the permission granted to the BRO.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that the union government had earlier begun the works to arrange 11 trains to move the workers from Jharkhand to Jammu and Chandigarh, post which they would have been taken to areas in Ladakh close to the borders with China for add steam to the building of road infrastructure.
The development comes at a time when the Indian and Chinese armies are engaged in simmering tensions over land and sovereignty issues dispute.
