Jharkhand Town And Station To Be Renamed After Lord Krishna; Union Home Ministry Clears Proposal

The Jharkhand Government’s proposal to rename the Nagar Untari town and its railway station after Lord Krishna has met with the approval of the Union Home Ministry. The town and station are proposed to be named after the Banshidhar temple in Garhwa district of Jharkhand.
It has been reported that the Jharkhand government plans to make the town a part of the Lord Krishna religious circuit and efforts are being made to model the same along the lines of Vrindavan and Mathura. An official has further commented that proposals for tie-up with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) are also being explored.
Since none of the concerned agencies had any adverse reports with respect to the proposal to rename the town after Lord Krishna, it is expected that the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Jharkhand Government will soon issue the notification renaming the station as well.
It should be noted that government guidelines stipulate that renaming of towns, cities, villages and railway stations require a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Union Home Ministry. The renaming of Nagar Untari comes on the heels of the Mughalsarai station in Uttar Pradesh being renamed after Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
