J&K Administration Begins Activation Of 20,000 COVID-19 Care Bed Capacity Across Its 20 Districts

In a big overhaul of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)’s capacity to cope with the surge in COVID-19 cases, the administration has begun to activate as many as 20,000 COVID care centre (CCC) beds across districts, reports Livemint.
As per an official order issued in this regard yesterday (16 May), the CCCs will be opened closer to rural areas in all the 20 districts with 1,000 beds each.
The major decision came after a detailed review of the evolving COVID-19 situation in the UT by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha during a high-level meeting held on Saturday (15 May).
Issuing the directive, UT’s Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam also added that the Health Department will also work out the feasibility of providing some of these CCC beds with oxygen support. He also added that Asha and Anganwadi workers will be trained and empowered to assist in COVID mitigation efforts.
Subrahmanyam also stressed targeted COVID-19 testing with a focus on areas with high positivity and on the UT’s unvaccinated population.
