Jammu and Kahsmir’s Tral Assembly segment, which has been an epicenter of terror activities in the state for some time, saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registering a strong showing in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, reports Zee News.

The BJP candidate from Anantnag LS seat managed to outdo his rivals from the National Conference and People’s Democratic Party in the Assembly segment. BJP received 323 votes in Tral against NC’s tally of 234 votes, PDP’s 220 and Congress’ 144. However, BJP could not manage to repeat the same in other segments of the LS seat, and was defeated in the Anantnag constituency.

The slain terrorists Burhan Wani and Zakir Musa hailed from villages that fall under this region.

Exuding confidence on increasing its voter base in the coming days, BJP unit head in Tral, Altaf Thakur said, “ Our party took the lead in Tral for the first time ever in the Lok Sabha election. We left everyone behind here. No one ever did anything for terror-hit Tral and its people and the people - especially the young - are extremely disheartened. They want a change and have chosen to back the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

Out of six LS seats from the state, BJP managed to win three seats while the NC-Congress alliance bagged the rest.
