One terrorist was killed in an encounter at Hardshiva, Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday (25 June), officials said.
According to details, a joint team of army, police and the CRPF laid a cordon of the area on the basis of a specific intelligence input during the night.
As the security forces tightened the cordon, the hiding terrorists fired at them triggering the encounter at the first light.
In the last seven days, the security forces have gunned down at least 16 terrorists in separate encounters in J&K.
On Tuesday (23 June), two terrorists were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Pulwama. A CRPF trooper, who was injured in the gunfight, later succumbed to his injuries.
Earlier on Sunday (21 June), the security forces eliminated four terrorists in an encounter in Srinagar's Zadibal area.
Eight terrorists were killed in Kashmir in two separate gunfights last Friday (19 June). Three terrorists were killed in Awantipora area of Pulwama district while five others were killed in Shopian district.
