In a significant development, the security forces have successfully eliminated four militants in an encounter in the Shopian district of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Zee News. Police said the slain terrorists belonged to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
"One more unidentified terrorist killed in Shopian encounter, total four terrorists affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT killed, incriminating materials including arms and ammunition recovered. Search going on," police said.
The encounter broke out in the Manihal area of the Shopian district where the joint team of security forces, which included CRPF, Indian Army and J&K Police's personnel, had launched a cordon and search operation following information about the presence of terrorists in the region.
During the operation, the militants opened fire on the security forces, following which the retaliation ensued, killing down three ultras in the exchange of fire.
The encounter is said to have broken out in the wee hours earlier today (22 March), at around 2 am.
