Two Jammu and Kashmir policemen were killed while another was injured after terrorists fired upon a police party at the Nowgam Byepass in Srinagar on Friday (14 August).
“Terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the police party injuring three personnel,” the police said.
“They were shifted to a hospital for treatment where two succumbed to their injuries," it added. Meanwhile, the police has cordoned off the area.
The incident comes ahead of Independence Day when security is on high alert across the Kashmir Valley.
Earlier on Thursday (13 August), the security forces busted three terrorist hideouts at Awantipora in Pulwama district of J&K.
The terrorist hideout was busted by security forces during cordon and search operation in Barsoo village of Awantipora.
Incriminating material ammunition including, AK rounds and grenades were recovered from the hideout, DNA reported.
