After almost three years, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell has come-up with a draft chargesheet over Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) anti-national slogan row which names Umar Khalid, Kanhaiya Kumar and Anirban Bhattacharya as the main accused, Indian Express reported.

The report claimed that the chargesheet has now been sent for approval by the public prosecutor and is expected to be filed in the Patiala House Court soon. The chargesheet also names eight Kashmiri students as the accused.

Indian Express quoted a senior police official as saying, “Police have found concrete evidence against the eight others, all hailing from Kashmir… two of them are students at JNU, two at Jamia Millia Islamia, one at Aligarh Muslim University, one is a Muradnagar-based doctor and two are students.”

As per the report, names of 32 more names have been added to the chargesheet which including that of former JNU students’ union vice-president Shehla Rashid.

The police have reportedly scrutinised the social media profiles of the students in a bid to collect evidence in the matter. The authorities also received a forensic report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory over data recovered from mobiles and laptops.

The matter dates back to a 9 February 2016 event in JNU called to protest against the hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru. It has been alleged that anti-national slogans were raised at this event.
