Pitching for 'Make in America' products, United States President-elect Joe Biden on Monday (16 November) said that only those firms that have manufacturing facilities in America will be allowed to participate in government contracts.

Biden made the announcement during a speech after a video meeting with a select group of nine business and labour leaders, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, reports Financial Express.

“From autos to our stockpiles, we’re going to buy American. No government contracts will be given to companies that don’t make their products here in America," Biden said.

Biden also urged the lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic party to come together and pass a Covid relief package urgently.

"Right now, Congress should come together and pass a COVID relief package like the HEROES Act that the House passed six months ago. Once we shut down the virus and deliver economic relief to workers and businesses, then we can start to build back better than before," Biden said.

When we build back better, we will do so with higher wages — including a $15 minimum wage — better benefits and stronger collective bargaining rights that you can raise a family on. That’s how we will build back the middle class better than ever, he said.
