Covid-19 Tablighi Jamaat patients who are currently undergoing treatment at Kanpur’s Lala Lajpat Rai hospital have been accused of throwing away nutritious food and assaulting a ward boy after their demands for non-vegetarian food were not met, Press Trust of India has reported.
As per the report, a ward boy went to the Covid-19 isolation ward on Saturday (27 April) to serve food to the 70 off Covid-19 patients linked to the Tablighi Jamaat. Their daily diet consists of bun and butter, fruits, rice, dal, roti and vegetables.
Fifteen of them though expressed displeasure over the food and demanded that they be given non-vegetarian food as they are “bored” with vegetarian food. They also demanded that the menu should be changed everyday.
After their demands were not met the Tablighis allegedly threw the protein-rich food on the floor and also angrily chased, manhandled the ward boy who somehow managed to escape.
Following the incident the hospital establishment has decided to only serve food to the Tablighis in the presence of cops.
