Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan
Social media today reacted quite angrily to the news that Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor would name their newly born son Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi. Many were seen tweeting and posting comments about how it was grossly insensitive of the Hindi movie stars to be naming their new baby after a medieval era mass murderer more particularly known for his sack of Delhi in the 14th century. Timur’s (or Taimur) sack of Delhi is one of recorded history’s bloodiest sacks with lakhs of innocent civilians being put to the sword.
Tarek Fatah, a well-known Canadian author, and critic of Islamists posted a comment on Facebook saying that Saif Ali Khan – Kareena Kapoor naming their child after Taimur “is evidence of utter ignorance or an arrogant embrace of the crimes committed by those who invaded and plundered Hindustan.” He begins by asking as to why would anyone in India want to name their child after “the man who committed a genocide of Hindus and Muslims of India, who built pyramids of human skulls across India.” Here is his Facebook post in full:
