The Election Commission (EC) has announced the dates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. While the voting is scheduled to take place on 12 May in a single phase, the counting will happen on 15 May.

Candidates are not allowed to spend more than Rs 28 lakh while campaigning and the use of loudspeakers will be regulated, the EC has said.

Around 56,700 polling stations will be set up in the state, an increase of almost 9 per cent compared to the last election, the body noted. Out of these, over 450 of these stations will be managed by all-women staff.

While the model code of conduct has come into effect immediately, the term of the current 224-member legislative Assembly ends on 28 May.
