Karnataka Floods: CM Yediyurappa Seeks Rs 3,000 Crore Immediate Central Aid, Says Losses Could Hit Rs 30,000 Crore

The Karnataka government has sought an interim relief of Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre for handling the flood situation in the state as the death toll due to floods touched 40 on Sunday (11 August), reports Deccan Herald.
While urging the Centre to release Rs 3,000 crore immediately for flood relief works, State Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has said that losses due to floods in 17 districts could exceed Rs 30,000 to 40,000 crore.
Earlier on Sunday (11 August), Yediyurappa along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah had conducted an aerial survey of Belagavi and Bagalkot districts to review the relief efforts.
Rise in the water level of many rivers of the state due to the heavy monsoon rains has forced the authorities to evacuate as many as 5.81 lakh people, of which 3.45 lakh people are from Belagavi district alone.
As per the situation report by the State Revenue Department, connectivity in 136 major roads was hampered and the efforts were on to resume the traffic movement.
Since 1 August, the death toll due to the floods has touched 40 while a total of 14 people have been reported missing, according to the official data.
