Karnataka Governor’s Directives Fall On Deaf Ears: No Trust Vote At Least Till Monday As Speaker Adjourns Assembly

Repeated directives by the Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala to the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy led Congress-JD(S) coalition to conduct the trust vote fell on deaf ears as speaker K R Ramesh Kumar adjourned the house till Monday (22 July).
This means that the trust vote has at the very least been delayed till Monday, with the possibility of further delay if the discussions drag on.
This has led many critics of the current Karnataka government to term it as a time biding technique to try and win back the 15 odd rebel MLAs and save the government.
The speaker had earlier been adamant over conducting the trust vote by today itself and had reasoned with the Congress-JD(S) combine that if he failed to do so he won’t be able to show his face to the world.
The leaders in power though were in no mood to listen and were adamant at postponing the proceedings till Monday. This included senior Congress D K Shivakumar alleging that the rebel MLAs were being held at gunpoint, thereby preventing their return.
