S L Dharme Gowda
The deputy chairman of Karnataka legislative council S L Dharmegowda has allegedly died by suicide. The dead body of Janata Dal (Secular) legislator was found on a railway track near Chikmagalur, his home town in the Central Karnataka, reports Times Now.
The 64-year-old JDS leader had reportedly left his home last night and his family was worried about his whereabouts. His dead body was found around 2am on Tuesday (29 December), reports News18.
According to the reports, a suicide note has been recovered from the site.
Expressing shock at Gowda's death, JDS leader H D Deve Gowda said that he was a calm and decent man.
"This is a loss of the state," the former prime minister said.
The development comes days after Gowda was manhandled by Congress members in the Upper House for trying to chair the session.
Some Congress members dragged him off the chair of the chairman alleging that he had joined hands with the ruling BJP to unconstitutionally unseat the Upper House chairman Pratap Chandra Shetty, who hails from Congress party.
It should be noted that BJP has moved a no-confidence motion against the Chairman and voting on the same is yet to take place in the legislative council.
