Karnataka Prohibits Five-Time Namaz At Mosques During Ramzan, Bans Gatherings For Iftar And Dawat-e-Sahri Too

Karnataka government on Thursday (16 April) said people from Muslim community will not be allowed to perform five-time Namaz (congregational Muslim prayers) in the mosques during the month of Ramzan, news agency ANI tweeted.
The State Minority Welfare, Waqf and Hajj Department, in a notification, said amid the coronavirus pandemic “no public shall be allowed to perform five-time congregational prayers including Jumma and Taraveeh in Masjid”.
The notification also stated, “No public address system shall be used by the staff of Masjid for offering Namaz and Azaan shall be given at low decibel.”
The department, referring to a Government of India order banning any religious congregation due to COVID-19 outbreak in India, also prohibited Dawat-e-Sahri or Iftar arrangements across the state.
Earlier on 13 April, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had asked the people from Muslim community to offer Namaz at their homes to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The Minister urged the people of the community to refrain from going to mosques and eidgah.
