With 12 new cases today (7 April), Karnataka’s Covid positive count has reached 175. The total number of recoveries in the state rose by five taking the total to 25. Seven of the 12 new cases today have links to the Tablighi Jamat event in Delhi.
Of the 12 new cases today, two are from Kalaburgi and Bagalkote, three from Mandya, four from Bengaluru, one from Gadag.
Currently Karnataka has 146 active Covid-19 patients making it the eleventh most affected state in the country.
Karnataka which reported the first Covid-19 fatality in India and was once among the top three most affected state has managed to contain the spread owing to strict lockdown in the corona affected districts.
“From 21 January to this day, that we have been able to contain the spread, despite being surrounded by other states which have seen a huge spike in number of cases, has been possible because we were one of the first to take strict measures to control it,”said Minister for Health Education Dr Sudhakar, as reported by TV9.
“Nanjanagudu Jubiliant factory has 25 cases, while the Jamaat Cluster transmission has 37 cases. if not for these two cluster, our numbers would have been at double digits,” said Sudhakar.
The state saw its first Covid warrior death yesterday as a 35-year-old frontline health worker succumbed to a heart ailment. A junior health assistant who was part of the screening team at Kolar’s Mulabagilu, Saravana is said to have died of a cardiac condition but his samples have been sent for testing, as reported.
The state now has ten dedicated laboratories for Covid testing with four in Bengaluru and one each in Hassan, Mysore, Shivamogga, Kalaburgi, Ballari and Mangaluru.
