Amid the ongoing infighting in the Congress over the distribution of tickets for the upcoming elections in Karnataka, members of the party’s youth wing from Dakshina Kannada have resigned protesting against party’s decision to not field Youth Congress president Mithun Rai for the Mulki-Moodbidri seat.

President and members of Block Congress Committee in all the eight Legislative Assembly constituencies and office-bearers of the Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress Committee (DKYCC) submitted their resignation en masse on Tuesday.

“Denial of ticket for Mithun Rai has pained youth leaders in the district. Youth leaders are in apprehension over the decision and they are not showing interest in working for the party. Hence, we have submitted a mass resignation to the District Congress Committee (DCC). It has been decided that the Youth Congress will be remaining neutral in the district in the days to come. We tried to contact Mithun Rai, but failed. However, we have decided to submit resignation on our own,” said DKDYCC general secretary Kiran Kumar Budleguthu.

According to the Deccan Herald, Mulki-Moodbidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain had earlier said that he would not contest the elections to pave the way for youngsters.

This comes after party workers and leaders, disgruntled with the party high command's first list of candidates, took to streets to express their anger. Party workers raised anti-Siddaramaiah slogans, burning tyres, effigies etc on the streets. In Mandya, angry Congress workers vandalised the party's district offices.
